REALbasic Lessons – Where are they?

Well it seems that the server at Multiupload has shut down, which to be quite honest is a pile of steaming horse shit as there was no real notification for those of us who are storing legitimate files to back them up. This means I lost all of my REALbasic tutorials I had stored on there. I did have a backup on an eHDD which up until now has been veeeerry reliant but it has also died. I am going to try and take apart the eHDD and maybe connect it to a PC and see if that will boot, maybe the USB connection is just fried…. maybe I can only hope.

Sorry about this, sorry to anyone who was trying to download files.

Good news – I now have a new laptop! Which means I will be getting back in to developing a few things and I will brush up on my programming / web development / graphics design and when I do I’ll post a few tutorials.

Oh, and I’ll update about the eHDD story as I troubleshoot the PoS.

REALbasic Lesson 12 – Creating an MP3 player.

I got bored at Uni so I decided to make an MP3 player. Not much new in this but you can see how to work with another listbox and also a movie player. There is an OpenDialog feature which is pretty useful. Enjoy.

REALbasic Lesson 11 – Working with Registry Items.

In this lesson you will work with registry files. Reading them, altering them, creating your own, filling with custom data etc.
You can use these as a means of storing instructions for an app locally on the computer.

Check the video out for a full understanding!

REALbasic Lesson 10 – HTTP Socket Downloads.

Made it to lesson 10 😀 Not bad work!

So in this lesson I’ve introduced how to download files with a HTTP Socket. You will see work with familiar things such as arrays, loops, if statements but also a new object, the progress bar! Exciting huh? Anyways, check out the video for a full view on what it is and what it does. Enjoy.

REALbasic Lesson 09 – Custom Classes.

Learning how to make custom classes and drag out an “Object” from the Toolbox on the left hand side.

NOTE : To see an “Object” you must set the tools list to show all controls. Like this – http://i50.tinypic.com/153tx6v.png
Then in it’s properties panel you must set it’s “Super” to “cMyCalculator”, basically meaning that it will act as a new object of the cMyCalculator type. Inheriting all of it’s methods and anything else it posses.

REALbasic Lesson 08 – Custom Methods.

Woo! Long time since my last update. Lesson 08 covers custom methods. In this tutorial you will use the familiar Str() function and a new function called Val() which turns string numbers into integer numbers. This is a good lesson. And yes, I know, my methods are simple (MsgBox, adding numbers), but this just shows you how to do custom methods. Make them more complex for yourself ;P.

REALbasic Lesson 07 – Parsing Data.

Parsing

Using the FolderItem and nested If statements to do checks for data! Also using the TextOutputStream to create the file. Pretty good one this. In the upcoming tutorials I will most likely introduce Opening files, manipulating and resaving! All of this to come in the future!
